Puppet Kings

I have a soft spot in my black little heart for Breakout games. When I was a kid I must have spent a fortune in the arcades playing them. Fast forward a few years and it was a fave way to pass the time in college when I should have been studying. Steam has been a gold mine for this sorta thing for me. Most of em suck but every once in a while I see something that I might really love. Puppet Kings looks like a damn good time.

Check out the trailer and press release below:

ABOUT THIS GAME

In a land where The Ancient Law states that kings of the four races should take turns to rule, the current king is determined to rule forever. But to do it he and his minions will have to overcome The Judges, titanic monsters whose job is to enforce the Ancient Law and prevent pretenders from ascending to the throne.

Puppet Kings is a modern take on the Breakout genre taking block-breaking to new levels of fun by introducing characters, boss rush as primary game mode and a roguelike twist.

Puppet Kings is a modern take on the Breakout genre taking block-breaking to new levels of fun by introducing a story, characters, boss rush as primary game mode and a roguelike twist.

In a land where The Ancient Law states that kings of the four races should take turns at the throne, the current king is determined to rule forever. In order to do so, he and his minions will have to overcome The Judges, titanic monsters tasked with enforcing the Ancient Law and preventing pretenders from ascending to power.

The Judges will always come back to fight the rallying kings. The only way to stop them for good, is to shut down the Ancestors Forge where they were made. The player incarnates his favorite king on his quest to the forge. The crux of it all is that he is old and out of shape, and will need the help of his minions to fight the Judges.

Features:

  • Breakout core mechanic
  • Roguelike nonlinear progression
  • 22 bosses to fight
  • 5 playable characters

Gameplay:

The game is driven by a non-linear progression through the Judges’ fights. The game has up to 9 levels, in each one the player will fight one Judge. There are several different Judges are available in each level.

By meeting a certain criteria, each judge can be enraged making it harder to defeat. When the player manages to enrage and then defeat a boss an alternative path will open for them on the map
