Interesting Interviews

PAX East 2016

We were bombarded with emails when we signed up as press for PAX East 2016, but one of the games that caught our eye was Dragon Fin Soup. While I’m not a huge fan of rogue-like games, the combination of fairy tales, RPG elements and deep mechanics intrigued me, so I set up an interview with Ash – the co-founder and CEO of Grimm Bros  – to speak more about the game.

Dragon Fin Soup‘s story is centered around the drunken bounty hunter Robin. As you might have guessed she’s Little Red Riding Hood. Accompanied by her trusty pet Big Bad, she takes on bounties to earn money and pay off her bar tab and then rack it back up. I have to say that when we first picked it up we were a bit underwhelmed with the poor controls and somewhat confusing combat. Once we realized that combat was turn-based though, it opened up a whole new level of strategy. The game is $19.99 on Steam and they plan on releasing a huge update later on this year called the Extra Chunky edition. If you want a game to hold your hand, this is definitely not it. An unofficial member of the development team jumped on our Twitch stream and called it a mix between Zelda and Dark Souls. I wouldn’t go that far as the gameplay is very different (especially the turn-based aspect), but it should give you an idea of what you’re in for – an adventure game with a high difficulty level.

You can learn more about the game in the interview below. Thanks to Grimm Bros. for agreeing to the game and be sure to go and download it if you like rogue-likes and deep strategy.
