Is Refunct Worth Your Time?
What Should You Play it On?
How it Plays and Why it Works:
Simple, relaxing and fun.
We all have our bad days. If you need something to take your mind off whatever ails you then Refunct is perfect. It’s simple, yet challenging enough to keep you interested and helps you focus on something else.
Refunct is a first person platforfmer about bringing the world back to life. That’s pretty much it. You just go platform to platform hitting buttons to spawn more platforms and buttons. Then you repeat the process until you fill in the map. When you finish you get a delightful picture of your finished work.
It’s deceptively simple, but that’s what makes it perfect. There’s no violence or death. You only focus on pressing the buttons. Of course there are some added features. If you touch a platform you change it from gray to green. You don’t need to do this, it’s just a nice aesthetic touch. There are also small red and black glowing cubes that you can collect. Getting them unlocks achievements.
Refunct manages to be fun and soothing at the same time.
You can beat Refunct without touching every platform. The game is “finished” when you activate all of the buttons. I “finished” Refunct in about 90 minutes. The game touts a 30 minute play time, but I restarted once or twice before I discovered I can walk jump out of an area. Speaking of discovering, Refunct has no tutorial whatsoever. No guides, hints or tips. The developer just assumes you will figure it out. Thankfully they designed the game so well you don’t ever need them. Sure I restarted, but I never felt bad for doing so.
The only problem I had was the inability to remap the buttons on my Xbox controller. Besides that it’s pretty much perfect.
Sure, three bucks for 30 minutes of play time sounds kinda high. Yet it felt right for me. I was in an absolute horrid mood when I started playing. By the time I finished there was a smile on my face.
So yeah, 3 bucks is totally worth the price.
