The Nardio Visual Novel Review

Is Love at First Sight worth your time?

Yes it is!

What did we think without spoiling it?

Love at first sight is an endearing kinetic experience that will pull you in and put a smile on your face.

After falling in love at first sight with the shy Sachi Usui, an injury-ridden, single-eyed high school girl, the protagonist tries to win over her lonely and isolated heart. A pure, heart-warming romance game where the apple of your eye only has one eye!

Love at First Sight is a wonderful romantic kinetic visual novel experience that managed to hit all the right notes. Everything about this visual novel worked for me. From the interesting art style, to the writing, as well as the music. A lot of care went into this and it shows. The rest of this post is just going to be me gushing about the this. Really, you should stop reading this right now and just go buy and enjoy this really made visual novel.

Love at First Sight has you experiencing the world through the eyes of a transfer student in a high school. Things are going pretty normally until you meet a very interesting girl. From then on you are eager to know more about her. What happens next evolves pretty naturally and reminded me a lot of the joys of first crushes, love, heart ache and school drama. After spending a few hours in the world I loved it.

The story is a kinetic experience, so there there are no choices to be made. That might sound bad to players looking for choice, but I believe the story told works best this way. I found myself really invested in what was happening (besides the annoying Steam achievement notifications popping up) and was glad for the lack of choice because I was able to stay fully immersed in the story. While Love at First Sight has a satisfying story and conclusion, there are more little stories told as extras once you finish the main experience.

akemi-and-tomoyori-in-love-at-first-stightThere is also an additional non fictional story that explains the creation of the visual novel and what drove some of design choices. This was especially fascinating to read through. Love at First Sight was created in a rush in only two months! The creator of this visual novel is unbelievably hard on them self with regard to this visual novel and doesn’t seem to have much pride in it. I find this shocking because I absolutely adored it. Thankfully a large majority of Steam reviews also echo my love of this visual novel. I really hope that helps the creator of this feel some much needed pride and joy in their work.

At $9.99 the price may seem a bit steep for the experience, but I honestly believe it’s very well worth it. I was in a pretty horrid mood when I first started Love at First Sight. As I read on I couldn’t help smiling, grinning and finding myself enthralled in the heart warming experience. This is one of those stories that will tug on your heart strings, bring back fond memories and feelings. Love at First Sight just works it’s way into your heart.

I didn’t know what to expect when I bought this a while ago, I just know it had great reviews, and interesting art style and an interesting character. Besides that I just bought it blindly and am totally happy with what I ended up with. I waited until I totally forgot what the premise of the visual novel was to play it. I like this sort of blind gameplay experience that leaves me wondering about what I am getting into. I honestly thought by quickly glancing at the art that the story here would be much, much darker than it was. So finding a heart warming experience instead was a very welcome surprise. Love at First Sight is over two hours long and none of it feels stretched out or wasted. The story wraps up so well that it doesn’t feel short or cheap. It just works and spending $9.99 for over two hours of engaging entertainment is totally worth it. This is a story that works well on it’s own or can (hopefully?) be expanded later on in sequels.

I wholeheartedly recommend this visual novel.
