Ever wanted to experience a game as a hybrid engineered cat? Then Kitty Nigiri is the game for you! The puzzle game seems like it could be a ton of fun and especially if you’re into VR. Read more in the press release below:

The Game

You play as Kitty, the engineered hybrid cat thrown into a life or death battle of wit and cunning. Players will experience the game in first-person as they navigate their way through its many rooms, chase sushi, solve puzzles, dodge lasers and save kittens. The players are armed with a pair of Cyberite Chopsticks which allow them to collect Sushi Rolls for power-ups and interact with the environment. The mazes are navigated by either using the teleport ability, which can be thrown further to cover a greater distance, or by using the surf ability, which lets the Kitty freely fly around the level.

The players also have at their disposal a Dynatron Shield, used to to deflect lasers and hold mini-reflectors which they can strategically place in order to reflect lasers and solve puzzles.

As the game progresses the rooms get tougher as new mechanics are introduced. The game starts off simple enough, requiring the player to solve puzzles by redirecting laser beams but the danger room vibe quickly ramps up as fireballs and gravity manipulation are introduced.

Although the game is very near to completion the developers have released Kitty Nigiri into Steam Early Access so they can double down on the puzzles and content that players really enjoy for the full release.

The Early Access version will feature all of the core mechanics that are planned for the final game however the developers will save the second half of the story for full release. Depending on player feedback the game is expected to be in Early Access for the next 3 months.

The Story

The passengers aboard the Starliner Fairbrother have gone mad. They were among Earth’s wealthy and elite, and booked travel with the assurance that after four Earth generations of deep sleep they would arrive at the utopia of Alpha Centauri. The passengers awoke–but the promised star system, rife with life-bearing planets, was nowhere to be found; in every direction only empty space.

Panic set in, shifts went unfilled, storehouses looted. It seemed that civil war was inevitable, that is, until a hero emerged in the form of a young apprentice pastry Chef. He worked with the scientsts to awaken a large seedbank of genetic speciemens aboard the Starliner.

However, as years went by, the seedbank was drained faster than clones could be produced. Once familiar domesticated animals were gone diners feasted on increasingly exotic breeds: bidding for tigers, elephants, kangaroos, everything. One by one the animals went extinct, the last of a species bringing exorbitant prices. Eventually all that were left were the pets; then only dogs and cats. Strict rations were set, and it might have worked, but survival, it seemed, was not enough. Unrest swelled. And thus the Games were born—as with the Ancient Romans, all that could pacify the restless masses was mortal entertainment.
