Versailles of the Dead Vol. 1 Main

Versailles of the Dead Vol. 1

IS Versailles of the Dead Vol. 1 WORTH YOUR TIME?

Yes

Here is the synopses: Warning, Brief Spoiler For The First Chapter In The Volume

########################################################################################

While en route to marry Louis XVI and become the Queen of France, Marie Antoinette’s carriage is intercepted by bloodthirsty zombies. The sole survivor of the attack is Marie’s twin brother, Albert. He heads for Versailles in his sister’s gown–and instead of continuing life as himself, decides to take his sister’s place. Now at the heart of the French royal court, Albert must face the undead horrors as the man who would be queen.

WHAT DID WE THINK WITHOUT SPOILING IT?

I enjoyed it & I’m confused.

A LOT happens in this first volume, and I found myself very, very lost by the end of the chapter. There is a story being told, it’s interesting, but there are so many twists and turns with the characters that I really don’t even know what is really happening. I don’t even really understand the characters. But I still enjoyed it…

This is odd.

The art is magnificent and the pacing of the story is a bit fast but OK so far. It’s just running at full speed and a lot is not explained. Versailles of the Dead Vol. 1 is a great example of storytelling that drip feeds you plot but manages to still feel rewarding as you follow the story. I think I know who the bad guys are. I think I know who the good guys are. But, I don’t think it’s going to be black and white. Versailles of the Dead Vol. 1 is kind of fun that way. Kumiko Suekane is amazing me so far with the art and story. I always find myself super impressed when someone not only writes an impressive manga but also draws it flawlessly.

This is a dark book that is bloody, but not gore porn. A lot of the violence happens off panel or in solid black. That said, characters die and this isn’t a hopeful book. If anything this looks to be a really, really dark story. I have no idea what I’m in store for with this series, but I am damned curious.

There is one downside to this manga… It’s not available digitally… I had to buy a good ole fashion physical print.
