Perry Miniatures Travel Battle

 

I just came across a YouTube video that blew my mind and made me giddy.

 

YouTube creator NS Miniverse just shared an awesome video going over Perry Miniatures Travel Battle. Travel Battle is an old school rank and flank large scale wargame geniusly fit into a tiny box that even when assembled and laid out still manages to play out in a tiny space.

It’s our dream large scale wargame for folks who live (are trapped in) tiny apartments with tiny tables and almost no storage space.

When I stumbled upon NS Miniverse’s video, I found myself hopeful and yet guarded. I’ve been down this road before, tiny wargame game in a tiny box? Pssshhhh SURE. Yea right. Either it would be incredibly shallow, look and play like shit or unfold into some unwieldy monster of a game that isn’t actually meant for travel or for small spaces……..

 

Nope, this was legit.

TravelBattle is a complete table top miniatures game in a box.
It is intended for gamers who have limited space, or those who are traveling on a long journey or holiday and need a gaming fix!
All the playing pieces are made of coloured plastic, and include two 3 dimensional green terrain boards with separate woods, grey buildings and red and blue armies. The size of the miniatures is 8mm.
The two terrain boards are designed to be placed together on any edge, giving the potential for 16 different battlefields. The 1″ grid marked on the boards excludes the need for rulers to be used in the game.
The simple rules system should allow a game to played within an hour.
The two armies are generic Napoleonic forces of equal size and composition which make up three brigades for each side. There is a simple painting guide in case you which to enhance your armies and terrain boards.

4 x Guns and 12 crew
6 x Brigadiers
2 x 10″ 3D Terrain boards

You have no idea how excited this video made me. I live in a painfully tiny New York City apartment and with that comes the inability to enjoy most war-games. Especially the large scale classics that inspired Perry Miniatures amazing looking Travel Battle. Sure, this game will never really be those, but it looks good enough to scratch that itch. I also love how awesome the minis look and how modular the terrain is. Sure, I haven’t played it, but I want to and I really, really really hope that I love it.

Normally, I’m not a fan of painting parts of videos going over games like this but NS Miniverse’s video did a pretty great job showing off the detail, the possible way to paint them but didn’t stretch the experience out too much.

It left me inspired and wanting to paint up an army or ten of my own.

What about expanding the game?

Going over the comments in NS Miniverse’s video, it seems there are even custom rules to expand upon the game.

Yes please.

Now imagine, just imagine if Perry Miniatures Travel Battle is good, like really good. It would be amazing to take this core game and reimagine it for fantasy games. Maybe take some fantasy 10mm miniatures Forrest Dragon and have them replace the normal minis and BAM Chaos Dwarves vs Vampires! Or, tweak a bit more here and there and make some 10mm Sci-Fi Goodness!

 

The only thing I don’t like out of all of this is Perry Miniatures NEEDS some website help. OMG is their website bad. If I just come across their Travel Battle webpage without the NS Miniverse video, I’d have ignored it. There are no good pics, the explanation is lame, the picture they do have is TINY! How is this a legitimate website????????????

 

Right now, my dream my in my very soul, is that Mantic Games & Games Workshop see this video and are inspired by it to make a similar sized game for their epic war-games.
